Deer hunting is important for conservation in our region, but this time of year, please use extra caution in areas where hunting is permitted.
- Know when and where hunting is allowed. Specific park websites should provide that information.
- Scenic Hudson allows hunting at Shaupeneak Ridge. Hunters must follow designated rules and remain in areas indicated on this map.
- Wear bright clothing (think orange, red, yellow).
- Keep your pet leashed. And outfit them in a fluorescent harness or other bright colors as well.
- Hike during the day. Hunters are most active at dawn and dusk.
- Stay on marked trails.
- Make some noise! Deer don’t carry on conversations, so the best way to identify yourself is by making some moderate noise — while being respectful to your fellow hikers.
