Enhancing Climate Resilience Along our Waterfronts: Local Designs for the Future

Event Date:
Tuesday, March 7, 2017 -
6:30pm to 7:30pm

Learn about “smart” ways to develop our waterfronts so they can better adapt to one of climate change’s most severe impacts—sea level rise. Sarah Lipuma will share strategies from her award-winning proposal for the Hudson River Sustainable Shorelines Project that help protect habitat, provide ecological benefits, enhance outdoor recreation and support the economy—all while making shorelines (and communities) more resilient to rising waters.

A research assistant with the Hudson River Foundation, Sarah Lipuma developed her proposal for the Hudson River Sustainable Shorelines Project while serving as a Student Conservation Association intern with the Hudson River National Estuarine Research Reserve in 2016. Last August her proposal won a Judges’ Choice Award in the adaptation contest at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology’s Climate CoLab.
